Brain Waves were visited Congaree National Park Visitors:


On Wednesday October 23, 2013 the Brain Waves were visited by representatives from Congaree National Park.  These visitors critiqued student drafts of mural designs, writings, and videos for a mural that is being constructed outside the 6^th grade hallway as part of the Brain Waves Parents, We Shrunk Your Kids project.

Kids-We Bought a Zoo!

A description of our project is below

"In the end, we conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught." - Baba Dioum, Senegalese poet. We want our students to find the beauty in nature and wildlife, and find a way in which to share that with our community.

Students will work in collaborative teams to design and create proposals for new exhibits at our local. This will include a oral presentation and written informational text following the Common Core standards. In addition, they will create maps and three dimensional models using the materials that will require students to use measurement and scale following the Common Core math standards. Proposals will include the geography and climate of the region where the animal lives, human influences and threats to the animal species.

Today we worked on peer feedback for our first drafts of our murals.  Students wrote specific feedback for each team working on a panel for the mural.  Ms Beck also came down and offered her feedback as well. Next week we will work on the 2nd draft.
